Mark Ryan Chariker: LIMBO
Exhibition Dates: January 12- March 8, 2020
Opening Day: Sunday, January 12 @ 6 - 8pm
1969 presents Limbo, an exhibition of recent paintings and prints by Mark Ryan Chariker. This exhibition marks Mark Ryan Chariker’s first solo exhibition in New York City.
Chariker’s monochromatic paintings, consisting of dark blues and greens, evoke feelings of the Sublime, dealing with the inner psychological turmoil of the subjects he is painting. The positions of these figures also calls to mind religious iconography of the Renaissance period, with a contemporary twist, as all of his characters are dressed in modern clothes, looking up into a void rather than the heavens.
Mark Ryan Chariker (b. 1984, Spartanburg, SC) currently lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Chariker’s work has been included in numerous group exhibitions across the United States, most recently with 1969 Gallery at Untitled Art Fair Miami Beach. Chariker has completed residencies at the RAiR Foundation in Roswell, New Mexico, SÍM in Reykjavik, Iceland, and NES in Skagaströnd, Iceland. He received a BFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts/Tufts University.
