1969 Gallery is pleased to present Lexicon, a group exhibition showcasing works on canvas, panel, and paper by seven international contemporary artists. The exhibition celebrates the evolution of visual language and the distinct vocabularies each artist has cultivated over time to convey complex ideas through imagery. Like an author crafts a narrative, these artists build visual worlds where color, form, and composition are symbols within a broader, intricate syntax. By assembling diverse works from these seven artists, Lexicon invites viewers to consider how visual language operates as a system for making meaning.
Each artist in Lexicon employs a distinct set of visual motifs, establishing a signature vocabulary that transforms their works into layered narratives. Chariker’s sidling figures and Oreian’s energetic surfaces full of information and possibilities exemplify how recurring elements become imbued with significance, creating a dialogue between artist and viewer. The result is an exhibition of works that offer an interplay of sensation and meaning that rewards close and repeated observation.
Returning to these works, one confronts a nuanced discourse and new layers of understanding personal and universal themes, reinforcing the exhibition’s central premise: that art, much like language, is an evolving lexicon.
