Catherine Repko: Hark
Exhibition Dates: September 4 - October 24, 2024
Opening Reception: Wednesday, September 4th @ 6PM-8PM
39 White Street, Tribeca
1969 Gallery presents Catherine Repko: Hark, the artist’s debut solo presentation in the United States. Combining marble dust with oils on linen, Repko creates intimate and ethereal figurative scenes, exploring familial bonds. Repko’s work is rooted in her relationship with her sisters and the spaces they occupy.
Forms clash and melt together, the notion of positive and negative space are challenged creating intimate and meaningful scenes. Conversations can be heard from the lighter than air figures, but no mouths can be seen. A complicated silence can be felt from the figures that mean more to each other than what might meet the viewer’s eye. Family constellations are built from oil and marble dust through intentional and nuanced color and synchronized movement.
